1967 GTO race car (CA)
400 Pontiac, 4-speed, 12-bolt rear end. Runs 12 flat in the quarter with the tires in the air in 1st gear and again in 2nd. This P.H.S. documented GTO was restored and slightly modified for competition. The car is uncut and built in the true spirit of a 1960’s drag car. OLD SCHOOL. The engine is the WT 4-speed block with all “top shelf” components from; Eagle, JE Pistons, Isky, Fluidampr, ARP, Edelbrock, Clevite, Total seal, etc. The cylinder heads are stock and uncut “670” castings with all new components from SI, Harland Sharp, ARP and topped off with vintage Cal Custom valve covers.
The car has run at Famoso in Bakersfield, LACR in Palmdale, Inyokern in Ridgecrest, Sears Point in Sonoma, Firebird in Arizona, Fontana, Sacramento and Las Vegas. It is deadly consistent and was frequently the highest ranked stick shift car at various track series. Finishing in the top 5 several years in it’s career. Rubber Check participated in the Flowmaster Big Bucks series, Summit ET series, Craftsman ET series, Pontiac Drag Days series, Good guys events and also the California Hot Rod Reunion. In addition to numerous grudge nights and exhibitions. This nostalgia drag car was invited by, Greg Sharp ( NHRA’s museum curator) to the California Hot Rod Reunion in: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006. The crowd always enjoyed hearing the “Old School” 4-speed car power-shift down the quarter mile.
This high profile drag car was featured on TV, radio, dozens of newspaper articles, several times in NHRA’s National Dragster, and POCI’s Smoke Signals. The pedigree of the Rubber Check Nostalgia Car is a long and full of history. All the lettering on the car is in vinyl and is easily removed. Note: this car is seriously detuned in order to run under the roll cage requirement of the day.
