From the “Standard Catalog of Pontiac 1926-1995” by John Gunnell and Ron Kowalke

“The new 6000 STE (GM’s first all-wheel-drive-car) was predicted to be the hot ‘image’ product of the year. It reflected an effort to make Pontiac A-body cars distinctive from those of other GM divisions. Unfortunately, its introduction was delayed, making it impossible to hit even its low-volume production target of 3000 units. The LeMans sourced from Daewoo, of Korea, helped increase the company’s model year unit sale volume to 740,928 cars sold.”
