From the “Standard Catalog of Pontiac 1926-1995” by John Gunnell and Ron Kowalke

“Grand Am was the big name for 1985: a new ‘driver-orientated’ sports coupe. It joined a set of recently introduced models intended to expand Pontiac’s performance image beyond the long-lived Trans Am.  The list included the plastic-bodied Fiero, turbo-powered Sunbird, and European-influenced 6000 STE.”

“Sales rose moderately, total model year produced = 735,161.  The 6000 and Parisienne posted impressive increase. Small cars weren’t doing as well. Fiero sales continue relatively good, if beneath expectations. The 6000 was Pontiac’s best seller. Well over half of Pontiacs now carried fuel-injected engines.”

I own two 1985 Pontiac 6000 STE, which I find to be fun driving cars. They have not proven to be trouble free, but I still enjoy driving them.
