From John Gunnell’s book “75 Years of Pontiac Oakland“:

“The new generation of down-sized, fuel efficient Pontiacs proved capable of bucking the general industry trend (10.66 percent decline from previous year) with an increase of 7,032 units to equal 907,412 total for the year.”

“In terms of general change, the standard and mid-sized Pontiacs reflected minor differences inside and outside. Firebirds received drastic restyling for the soft polyurethane nose panel and had entirely new grilles, taillamps, bumpers and park/signal lamps.”
