From John Gunnell’s book “75 Years of Pontiac Oakland“:

“In the late months of 1973 gasoline shortages, stemming from an Arab oil embargo, spelled production cutbacks and sales declines for the American auto industry. PMD, along with other makers, was heavily beset be a falling economy. The division’s new car sales fell off approximately 34.8 percent in the calendar year. Total production was 580,748 cars.”

“Full size Pontiacs continued on carryover wheelbases and were roughly two-inches longer than 1973.”

Another note – the GTO became a Ventura-based option, and it would be the last year for the original run of the GTO model/option.
